South American Eagle God (also simply referred to as South American Eagle in Mech+ subtitles) was a robot from Colombian team UDITECH which competed in the 2018 series This is Fighting Robots.

It entered the competition during Episode 7 as a 'challenger', though initially it was not selected by a team manager to prove its potential in combat. Eventually, Zhang Yishan gave South American Eagle God a chance to battle the newly-reinstated Vulcan, though it would lose the fight after getting its lithium polymer battery punctured.

South American Eagle God's statistics

South American Eagle God was a very large box-shaped robot, featuring a reflective, multicolored bodyshell; a powerful single-toothed vertical flywheel; and a small front wedge brandishing the UDITECH team name. The red-painted flywheel was capable of flipping opponents over and was mounted on its own 'pod', enabling the entire weapon assembly to be removed in the pits for ease of maintenance.[1]

Other features mentioned by fellow roboteers included the use of Magmotors throughout and a chassis made from 'laser cut steel plates' - itself welded together with assistance from the Twisted Constructions team.[1] An account from Bots FC also claims that South American Eagle God incorporated carbon fiber and aluminum into its construction.[2]

Key weaknesses for South American Eagle God included a lack of self-righting capability along with a fragile top cover which was prone to bending. The latter proved especially costly against sharp-tipped overhead weapons, as demonstrated in its only fight.

Robot History[]

This is Fighting Robots (Season 1.5)[]

In order to join the competition during the later stages, South American Eagle God was required to fight an existing robot as a 'challenger' machine in Episode 7. Available to both Zheng Shuang and Zhang Yishan, its status - compared to its design and UDITECH's status as first-time competitors in robot combat - drew surprise from other roboteers in attendance, namely Wang Xi. Shuang praised its elaborate, if somewhat 'weak' design, while Yishan appeared completely unimpressed with the machine, believing it to be inferior to 'any' of his then-current robots.

South American Eagle God, therefore, was not initially chosen by either manager, leaving the UDITECH team disappointed and uncertain at first. However, after some persuasion from Wu Chun, Yishan selected his newly-obtained British competitor Vulcan to test its worth against the 'challenger'. In their 'counter decision', UDITECH agreed to pit South American Eagle God against the Team Robots Live! machine, in the hope of directly replacing it on the Blue team.

South American Eagle God's wedge proved to be higher than that of Vulcan's, and it was immediately pushed back by the British machine. Afterwards, Vulcan edged its way up South American Eagle God's wedge, and the vertical disc threw Vulcan over. However, South American Eagle God's spinner stopped working soon after this. Vulcan then drove under South American Eagle God and slammed it into the arena wall at high speed. Vulcan was then able to land repeated axe blows, penetrating the armor of South American Eagle God.

Vulcan also bent South American Eagle God's armor through purely ramming into the robot. Eventually, Vulcan landed a critical blow, and punctured South American Eagle God's lithium polymer battery, while Vulcan slammed South American Eagle God into the arena wall with its axe still buried in the robot. This caused South American Eagle God to catch fire, in an immediate knockout. As a result, South American Eagle God did not join Zhang Yishan's team, ending its brief appearance in This is Fighting Robots.
