Spike Head (Chinese: 刺头, romanized as Cì tóu, meaning Thorn; alternatively referred to as Spiky or Thorn Head in Mech+ subtitles) was a heavyweight robot which represented Brazil in the one-off series This is Fighting Robots. However, it would not be initially selected by any celebrity team managers and would be eliminated in its preliminary group battle, upon trying to attack Greedy Snake and turning itself over in the process.
Design[]
Spike Head used a wide two-wheel drive design, armed with a centrally-positioned lifter with interchangeable front-end configurations. Among those included a panel lined with several smaller spikes - hence the robot's name - or a shovel-like wedge with a thicker vertical spike, as used in its only battle. While fast, Spike Head had no known methods of self-righting, which was only possible if it was tipped onto its back and its rear-mounted wheels maintained contact with the arena floor. The whole robot adopted a red paint scheme with black wheels.
Robot History[]
This is Fighting Robots (Season 1.5)[]
After not being selected by any celebrity team managers to begin with, Spike Head fought in the second group battle of the series in order to impress them and get selected for the main competition. There, it fought American vertical spinner Cat King, along with experienced King of Bots competitors Greedy Snake and Whirlwind Cut.[1]
In its first attack, Spike Head rammed into Greedy Snake, but briefly fell over. It quickly righted itself, as its wheels were still in contact with the floor. However, after Greedy Snake released its grip on Cat King, Spike Head drove into Greedy Snake and threw itself over, landing on its back. Ironically, this cemented Greedy Snake's place in the competition, as Zhang Yishan credited and chose the latter to join his team. The Brazilian machine could not self-right, and was deemed immobile, leaving Spike Head as the first robot in this battle to fall. It was eliminated at this stage alongside Whirlwind Cut, with only Greedy Snake progressing.
