Microswitch is a British featherweight robot which competed in the 2018 King of Bots UK International Championships. Essentially a scaled-down version of Kevin Cleasby’s Season 1.5 entry Switch, it enjoyed limited success in the main competition, being eliminated in the qualification rounds after losing each of its battles to Calabash Bros, Binky and Hell's Angel respectively.

As its name suggests, Microswitch shares a similar design to its heavyweight counterpart, being a four-wheel drive robot with a low slanted box-wedge shaped chassis. Its main weapon was a large spinning drum at the front, surrounded by a large wedge and fitted with two asymmetrical single-toothed discs to cause heavy damage and flip opponents over. Microswitch’s drum could be swapped for a hammer, although it would not get to use the latter weapon throughout its appearances at the 2018 UK International Championships.

Microswitch pops Tempest

Microswitch pops Tempest

Microswitch's first match was against Calabash Bros, and Tempest, for this match Microswitch ran its drum spinner. This match started with all three robots spinning up to full speed. Calabash Bros got a minor shot in on Microswitch which then attacked Tempest, sending it into the air.

However this left Microswitch open for an attack from the Chinese machine which first launched it, and then Tempest into the air. Calabash Bros then attacked Microswitch again, flipping it, and breaking one side of its drive.

Following this Calabash Bros launched Tempest into the corner, before attacking Microswitch again. Surprisingly Microswitch was still moving after this, and Calabash Bros went after Tempest again.

This resulted in a colossal hit which flipped Calabash Bros, and sent Tempest reeling. However after the Chinese machine righted itself it became clear that there was something wrong with itas it was having problems delivering hits like before. Microswitch then got stuck on the pit, and Tempest pressed the pit release, but Microswitch escaped just in time.

Calabash Bros then delivered a few hits to Tempest, but nearly drove into the pit itself. After this one more hit was delivered by the Chinese entry before cease was called. Calabash Bros won the match on a judges decision, with Microswitch finishing third and picking up one point.

In February 2020, Kevin Cleasby created a brand-new version of Microswitch, designed in CAD by Adam Hamilton. It competed at the US featherweight event Motorama in the same month, defeating The Pile by knockout, before losing its next match to Crimson Snow after being overturned. Microswitch was then knocked out in the losers bracket.
