Ling Zhou prepares to announce the winner of a battle

Zhou appeared in every episode of Season 1, always being present inside and around the main combat zone of the King of Bots Arena. Her primary roles were analogous to those of Mark Beiro and Faruq Tauheed from the US robot combat show BattleBots, though additional roles effectively allowed her to act a fourth presenter alongside Lou Xi (Roach), Huang Jian Xiang and Wu Day Wei.

Before the start of each battle, Zhou would introduce competing robots as they entered the arena offering them a personalized introduction to generate pre-match hype. Once a battle was completed, she would typically interview the winning team, and on occasions the losing team, by the side of the arena, if a win by knockout was achieved. If a battle ended in a Judges' decision, it was Zhou's responsibility to announce the winner and congratulate the victorious team.

In some instances, Ling Zhou would speak to competitors in English after the battle, including the teams of The Grubs and Crossfire. In Episode 3, she announced Blue's first-round win over EarthShaker in English. Later in the same episode, Zhou was also seen interviewing judge Ian Lewis over Blue's 'strafing' design, and the panel's decision to give victory to the American machine.

Ling Zhou notably broke into tears after the battle between Tánshè and Hammerhead Shark, joining the team captain of Hammerhead Shark in his sorrows after losing the battle.

Throughout her appearances, Zhou wore tight black lycra with red stripes, and a large golden earring, and was never seen without her microphone and cue cards.
